Why is an antenatal class useful?
There are many factors which can occur through labour and birth – you cannot plan for all of them – but you can empower yourself by learning some tools and techniques to navigate the changes and challenges of birth positively.
Classes, books, podcasts and positive birthing websites are all good places to find lots of information about the range of options for birth, how you can make it a positive experience and give you confidence in your ability to birth your baby no matter how and where you give birth.
Because our class is small (max 5 couples) we can tailor to individual circumstances and birth plans and bridge any gaps in your knowledge.
Our Birth Skills Workshop is complimentary to NHS, NCT and other antenatal classes, and will enhance knowledge you’ve gained from your own research. It will give you additional tools to these offerings, particularly the time and space for you and your birth partner to practise labour and birth techniques together, and think about your own individual choices for your own unique birth.
How will an antenatal class help birth preparation?
We will encourage you to explore all the options available to you and help you to prepare to navigate the various pathways your labour and birth may take with confidence (and maybe even a new perspective), whether you choose to birth in hospital or at home, whether you have an induced labour, a natural one, or a caesarean birth, and whether this is your first or subsequent birth.
The techniques can also be used to help you through the rest of your pregnancy.
(If you are planning a caesarean birth, please contact us to discuss how the workshop is suitable for you. The workshop focuses largely on labour and birth practices and whilst we cover caesarean birth in the workshop we do so on the basis of this being an option later in pregnancy or during labour, rather than planned from the start. If this workshop isn’t the best fit for you we can explore other ways to support you.)
You will also get to meet other expecting parents on the workshop, we know that the social side of learning is just as important for creating confidence and feeling supported, and often long lasting friendships are made, we offer a Whats App group for continued contact with ourselves and others attending the session.
