Coming Home to Yourself

Hello! Welcome!

If you haven’t already, make your favourite cuppa, grab your journal and find a comfy seat as we explore how meditation and mindfulness can connect us more fully to inner-selves.

This blog is a preview of my September Cup of Calm newsletter - details of which you can find at the end of this post.

‘Coming home to yourself’ is a phrase that I heard often in my Yoga Nidra training.

It is a beautiful way to describe how mindfulness and meditation practices can help you to return to your inner self, to let go of the outer world for a while and just ‘be’ with yourself. Somehow, when you take time to pause and do this it brings a sense of familiarity - you know you have been in this inner space before and it really can feel like home.

In our busy lives and busy world we’re usually operating outwards – to the people, the noise, to the visuals that come at us from every angle. We can forget that there’s also an inner world, a sense of calm that we carry around with us all the time even in the busiest, noisiest moments. That space of calm is rich with wisdom and intuition, creativity and possibility. It can remind us of what is most important and can help us feel reconnected to ourselves, more steady, so that we can respond to the world around us in the best way possible.

I came across this lovely quote from Gabriela Green https://www.instagram.com/iamgabrielagreen/ on pinterest recently. It was the inspiration for this edition of a Cup of Calm.

I return to Me   - by Gabriela Green

It’s not selfish to slow down and reconnect to your inner world. You’re allowed to pause, to breathe, to step away from noise so you can hear your own voice again.

Today, I return to myself. To the quiet wisdom in my body. To the softness that doesn’t need to prove anything. To the truth that I don’t have to carry it all alone. If something or someone pulls me away from my centre, I lovingly step back.

What matters most now is coming home to myself again, and again, with compassion.

When I looked Gabriela up, I found that she is a tea meditation guide and a transpersonal coach. So this seemed to be the Universe telling me that creating ‘A cup of Calm’ each month was defintiely something worth doing.

…AND that inviting you to make a cup of tea (or drink of your choice) and pause for a moment would also connect you with others doing the same thing across the world.

So whilst you journey inwards through the reflections and meditation below, whilst youwhilst feeling gently connected to those doing the same in our little community.

Reflections

Feel free to jot down your thoughts in your journal, or a piece of paper, speak them into your phone’s recording app, make drawings or doddle instead of writing words, , think or even dance your responses! There’s no right or wrong and the answers are just for you…

  1. When do you feel most connected to yourself?

Maybe it’s when you are in a particular place? Or when you are doing a particular activity? Perhaps it’s when you are doing nothing and have space to just be.

2. What does it feel like when you are really connected to yourself?

Maybe this is a feeling in your body, or an emotion, a shape or a colour, describe it however you wish …

3. What disconnects you from yourself? When is connecting to yourself difficult?

How can you minimise this, or what can you do before or afterwards to reconnect.
